Welcome Cards are one of the most effective ways to capture the details of your newcomers, which is essential for follow up. Each Sunday, we take a moment during our service to encourage everyone (both newcomers and members) to complete a Welcome Card. By encouraging everyone to participate, rather than just the newcomers, you ensure that your newcomers don't feel 'singled out'. Our Hosts collect these cards during the service and collate the information ready for follow up emails to be sent.
At Grace City, we have found paper Welcome Cards to be the most effective way to capture the details of newcomers. We do, however, also have a digital Welcome Card option via - welcome.gracecity.com.au
(front of card)
(back of card)
Your Info Desk (or Welcome Lounge/Welcome Desk/Guest Services) should be an obvious place for guests to go if they would like to initiate a next step (whether that’s finding out more info about the church or signing up for an event or next step). It is important that you have a well trained person and well informed manning the desk at all times to ensure visitors don't approach an empty desk or leave with incorrect information.
It is also important that your Info Desk is warm and inviting! Ensure you have all important information on display and don't be shy to add some decorations to warm up the environment. It's a great idea to have something 'free' for people to take away with them - perhaps a Bible, book or coffee voucher. At Grace City, have an iPad available that allows newcomers to sign up for “next steps” via this form - welcome.gracecity.com.au/infodesk
Every Monday, our Membership Team sends follow up emails to our first and second time visitors from Sunday. The purpose of this email is to better connect with each newcomer and invite them along to our 'next steps' (Explore and/or Onboard) and any special upcoming events.
All follow up emails are sent from the email of a staff member (currently Amy Townsend - Membership Director) so that, should the visitor wish to make an enquiry, they will receive a prompt reply with the relevant information.

We've endeavoured to make our pathway as simple as possible to ensure that our newcomers can easily decide on their best next step. Our two main pathway options are:
EXPLORE / EXPLORE GROUP (Mission Pathway)
For those interested in exploring (or re-exploring) Jesus and the claims he makes? Then EXPLORE is for you! Each session includes a free lunch, a short talk, discussion together about what you've heard and an opportunity to ask as many questions as you like... all in a relaxed, informal setting. You can participate in the discussion or just sit and listen.
ONBOARD (Membership Pathway)
For Christians thinking of calling Grace City home? Then Onboard is for you! Onboard is an opportunity for us to present the vision and mission the drives Grace City and an opportunity for you to meet the team, ask questions, and get to know other newcomers in the life of church. Onboard is also the gateway to joining a Community Group and serving within the life of church.
In addition to these two next steps, once per quarter we run an additional next step:
For those who are new/newish at Grace City - whether they're a first timer, regular visitor or new member who has recently competed Onboard. Newcomers Night is a great opportunity to connect with other newcomers in the Grace City Community. So please join us for a relaxed, social evening over drinks and canapés. Newcomers Night is also a great opportunity to meet some of the Grace City Leadership Team and ask any questions you might have.

Foundational Training for Cafe Teams at Grace City:
Onboard is Grace City's Membership Course designed for Christians who are thinking about calling Grace City 'home'. Onboard is an opportunity for the leadership at Grace City to present the vision, mission and key values of our church. And it is an opportunity for Christians to meet some of the leadership team, connect with other newcomers and ask questions. At Grace City, we run Onboard once per month on a Sunday afternoon from 1-4pm.
Please email us for more information about our Onboard course content.
Effective Integration (Episode #47)
Derek and Scott from The One Thing chat to Amy Townsend (Membership Director at Grace City Church) and Tim Clemens (Lead Pastor), to listen to what they do to break down the barriers for new contacts. Listen in as they spend time thinking about the outsider, removing the ‘road blocks’ for newcomers and help the community engage with the Gospel message.
