If you could say one thing – meet Tom

What would you say if you had the chance to communicate one important thing? Grace City brings you a new mini-series from members of the launch team, who share a message they think you need to hear. Today, Tom Pattison encourages us with one idea worth sharing.

If you could say one thing, what would it be?

‘God wants his church to grow.’

One of Jesus’ sayings which rocks my world is this: “I will build my church and the gates of hell won’t overcome it” (Matt 16.18). As we launch out to start a new church, Jesus doesn’t necessarily promise that THIS church will grow, but as his global church continues to spread (particularly in Asia, Africa and South America) it would make sense if Grace City did grow. I am confident in God’s passion for the growth of his church.

What excites you about joining Grace City?

I love being around others who passionately want this church to grow. We are constantly seeing friends invited and down the line I’m looking forward to seeing lots of Green Square residents become Christians.

What’s something you’d love to get involved in within Green Square?

A couple of the Grace City guys are keen to jump into a local basketball competition. The informal open court in Nuffield Park already rocks my world – as long as the sun is out, there are half court games happening – and I’m keen to take that practice into a full court competition.

What’s one reason the Gospel means so much to you?

I reckon there are two types of people: love people and purpose people. I am friends with a lot of ‘love people’, who above all desire to be loved. Ultimately, the gospel is a message of God’s love for us shown in Jesus’ death on the cross – this is a love that doesn’t change because its greatest demonstration has already happened. We are loved! But I’m not primarily a ‘love person’. I’m a purpose person. I want my life to mean something. I want to achieve. Because of the gospel, I have purpose: I am here to reflect and represent God to a world that has rejected him!

What’s something you’d love prayer for?

I love seeing people connect with God for the first time, so please pray that people in my circles would do that this year.
